Wisdom

Think about the word wisdom…what comes up? What associations do you have with that word? I initially think of someone who is perhaps intellegent, or has an ability to read situations, and people well; has a heightened understanding of what is going on…When i think of someone who is wise, i think of a state of mind; all knowing etc. Wisdom seems distant.

In the passage of scripture given below, true wisdom is described only in relation to others and the world around you. True wisdom loves. True wisdom is focused on those around you, and thier benefit, not on you.

It says that true wisdom shows no favoritism and is always sincere. We live in a world that seems to be obsessed with showing favoritism (…at least in the media’s eyes anyway). We are surrounded by a celebrity concious society that seems to create a world full of favoritism and a desire to show off what you have. We have an up and coming generation who, generally speaking, are infatuated with fame and the ‘joys’ it brings.

It is rather refreshing to know that true wisdom is about really loving others. Not giving anyone priority over another due to social standing or any where they are in ones importance chart. Wisdom declares that we are all on a level playing field. Wisdom is always sincere. I love that. We can do the acts of love and care, but it can be tiring. But if we can get to place where we can really love and care for others from a place of sincerity, it is a wonderful thing.

Puttng others before yourselves, and living for something greater than you, is a concept that is foreign in todays society. But this is what true wisdom is. Wisdom is acknowledging the fact that we are all the same. Beautiful in its simplicity isnt it. Wisdom is saying that no matter what i do in my life, i will live knowing that all around me are the same, and i will treat them accordingly.

The passage of scripture finishes by saying that if we sow the sseds of peace we will reap a harvest of righteousness. If we take the word righteousness and look at it from its Greek meaning, it comes from the same work as justice. Justice means the ‘right thing’. So in other words, if we do the things that bring about peace we are doing the right thing. In this life, true peace is something that i think we could use a little more of. I believe this is wisdom.
